Next Meeting: May 13, 2006

by Stephen Davis

Program: Panel discussion: (A) Open question; and (B) What do judges look for when judging CP for the show?
Date: May 13, 2006
Time: 12:00-4:00 p.m.
Location: UC Botanical Garden, Berkeley

Open Question Panel

The far and away number one requested meeting topic has been for an open question and answer panel. We will bring up some of our best growers, new and not so new, to answer questions on soil, pests, water, and anything else that comes up.

Plant Judging

Why didn't your plant, or your favorite plant, win at the plant show? What made one outstanding plant a blue ribbon holder and another beauty a 3rd place winner. Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference. Past judges will discuss what they look for. It might help with your displays at home too!

For Sale and Raffle Table

Dominic Diaz writes:

I will have a good selection of seedling through mature Sarracenia divisions available for sale since I have to move to a new house by the end of the month. I have several named cultivars and seedlings of my own crossings. The raffle table will have plenty of plants up for grabs.

Bug Day at the Randall Museum

by Stephen Davis

Margaret Goodale has contacted us about staffing a table showing off and educating people about carnivorous plants at Bug Day at the Randall Museum in San Francisco. "...Bug Day would love to have some carnivorous plant folks here to amaze and terrify all the little children! Or at least amaze them. Kids adore the idea of plants turning the tables on bugs!"

The BACPS has traditionally had a table at Bug Day, but we could not find someone to go last year. They really missed us. Can anyone attend? Can others help with plants? Lots of Venus flytraps are helpful, and a few sundews and pitcher plants. The larger the plants the better, but something is better than nothing!

Bug Day is Saturday, May 20. The excited multitudes will be there between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Contact Stephen Davis at stephenwd@sbcglobal.net if you are able to help.

Request for March Meeting Photos and Minutes

by Tony Gridley

It seems that all the club officers who normally take meeting minutes and photos for the newsletters were unable to attend the March meeting. For the upcoming Spring Newsletter, if anyone else took pictures of the March meeting or can provide an account of what took place, please send whatever you can to me at tgridley@comcast.net. Many thanks.
