Program Topic: Allen Lowrie's Carnivorous Plants of Australia,
Vol. 4 and More!

Joe Mazrimas will be moderating a digital slideshow of rare and some never-before-seen Australian carnivorous plants!
Many of us have ordered seeds from Allen Lowrie, author of the Carnivorous Plants of Australia trilogy. In a letter to Joe Mazrimas that came with the seed order, Allen included a CD and an announcement. Some further details were uncovered by Christina Palmer when she called and spoke with Lowrie after the BACPS potluck. Apparently, Lowrie is planning on a four-book trilogy instead of the usual three! It sounds very exciting, and he has sent Joe many of the images in the first three books as well as the proposed fourth book, along with some research papers. The CD was a gift to Joe, as Joe helped Lowrie with collecting some scientific papers and such when Allen was visiting here many years ago and researching his first books.
Joe will be showing the pictures at the November meeting. Many are identified, but quite a few are new species nobody has seen, and a handful may not even be named yet! Now that is exciting! Since most of us have not seen Volume One or Volume Two, as these books are very nearly impossible to find and go for over $500, this is going to be a rare opportunity to see these plants. I would suspect that fewer than 50 people, if that, have ever seen some of the plants depicted in these slides.
Contest: As not all of these photos have the plants identified, Joe will be holding a contest to guess some of these plants. If you are right, you will have first pick from the raffle table!
Plants to show: In honor of this event, let's make this Australian CP Month with the BACPS! Bring in your Australian CP to show!
We need a projector that hooks up to a laptop for the meeting. If you have access to one, you will save the club from renting one. Stephen might be out of town on Thursday or Friday before the meeting, so please contact Joe if you are replying on those two days.
November is also our New Officer Election Month.
Have you wanted to get more involved? Now is your chance. Run for a position in the BACPS. We will be accepting nominations for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, and then hold elections at the November 13 meeting.
The BACPS Bulletin serves as a monthly forum for members to make CP-related announcements: events, want ads, items for sale, information sought, growing tips, etc. Submissions must be received by Tony Gridley by the 23rd of the month prior to publication.
