BAY AREA CARNIVOROUS PLANT SOCIETY BULLETIN
May 2004

UPCOMING MEETING: SATURDAY, MAY 15
The secret of creating soil mixes for our plants is a subject
of great debate. What works for one person, doesn't for another.
During our May meeting, several of our members will be describ-
ing their soil mixes, and the growing conditions that affect
their choice of soils.
Bill Baumgartl will moderate this event, and some of the clubs
best Known, and unknown growers will discuss and show their
choices of mixes and why.
If you have a unique soil mix you would like to share, contact
Stephen Davis and we'll try to in-
clude you in the presentation.
We will also be trying two new ways to get more plants into
your hands.
BACPS PLANT SALE: The BACPS will staff a table to sell your
plants for you. This way you won't be tied down to a sales
table if you have just one plant or even many plants. The club
will get the usual 10 percent of the sales to support its'
activities. For this sale only, it will be 5 percent. We could
still use an extra hand or two to help.
Email Stephen, or walk up to the sales table
on Saturday to help.
You can still sell you plants yourself if you prefer.
BACPS LOWRIE SEED SALE: The BACPS will have the Lowrie seed
list available and will take orders for a group purchase.
Since Lowriecharges a flat $20 fee for all seed orders, small
orders from Lowrie arevery expensive. Ordering through the club
will make it affordable to order just a few seed packets. Place
your order at this meeting, and then pick them up at the next
meeting.
Seed packets are $3 each.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
PLANT SALES: BACPS needs volunteers to staff plant sales during
meetings. Although we have some volunteers, we need several.
This is a great way to meet and talk with people, and a great
opportunity to get the first look at what's for sale. We still
need one or two people for this job!
SEED ORDER MANAGER: As part of an effort to make exotic CP seeds
available to BACPS members, we will be placing orders through
Allen Lowrie's seed list. As part of a perk for this job, BACPS
will pay for two of the manager's personal seed orders. Although
we do have a volunteer, we should have several people helping.
Plant SHOW CHAIRMAN: We still need a chairman to run the
September Plant Show. This is a really fun event to put on, and
is really fun to organize. You will have the help of myself and
the board.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stephen
Davis.
