Upcoming Meeting: May 15

Location: University of California Botanical Garden, Berkeley

Date: May 15, 2004

Time: 12:00-4:00 p.m.

The secret of creating soil mixes for our plants is a subject of great debate. What works for one person, doesn't for another. During our May meeting, several of our members will be describing their soil mixes, and the growing conditions that affect their choice of soils.

If you have a unique soil mix you would like to share, contact Stephen Davis (stephenwd@sbcglobal.net) and we'll see if we can include you in the presentation.

Call for Submissions

There's nothing worse than working to keep your plants looking healthy and well fed, only to have them fall victim to pests. During this time of year, aphids are the most common problem. Do you know of a way to get rid of aphids? We'd love to hear from you. Send an e-mail to Christie Fremon (hypothermya@msn.com), describing a pesticide or natural method that you've used to save your plants. The first two people that submit each solution will be mentioned by name in the April newsletter, so reply quickly!

Volunteer Opportunities

Plant Sales

BACPS needs volunteers to staff plant sales during meetings. This is a great way to meet and talk with people, and a great opportunity to get the first look at what's for sale. We still need one or two people for this job!

Seed Order Manager

As part of an effort to make exotic CP seeds available to BACPS members, we will be placing orders through Allen Lowrie's seed list. As part of a perk for this job, BACPS will pay for two of the manager's personal seed orders.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Stephen Davis (stephenwd@sbcglobal.net).

The BACPS Bulletin serves as a monthly forum for members to make CP-related announcements: events, want ads, items for sale, information sought, growing tips, etc. Submissions must be received by Christie Fremon (hypothermya@msn.com) by the 23rd of the month prior to publication.
