                         MEETING DETAILS

Date: February 28, Saturday
Time: 12:00 Noon
Location: University of California Botanical Garden, Berkeley
Program: Peter D'Amato and Damon Collingsworth,
"Into the Land of the California Cobra"

Recently, Peter D'Amato and Harry Tryon hosted an informal
field trip the Mecca of California CP in the wild, Gasquet.
It's a long hard drive, but seeing the plants in their natural
habitat is a breathtaking experience and worth the trip. Since
most of us can't go ourselves, come in to the safe, warm and
hopefully dry UC Botanical Gardens to see and hear about the
many bogs and plants in the northern part of our great state.
Some of these bogs are recent discoveries and only a handful of
people have ever seen even a photo of them, much less hear of
them.

Peter D'Amato and Damon Collingsworth will be presenting this
slide show of the trip last fall to these native CP Bogs.
Darlingtonia colonies were spectacular and the pitchers huge.
Some of the sites had Drosera, Pinguicula, and Darlingtonia
all growing together. You will come away inspired to make a
pilgrimage this spring.

An approximate meeting schedule is as follows:

12 noon - Social, Display Table, Sale
1:00 pm - Announcements and Program
2:30 pm - Show and Tell, Silent Auction, Auction

To promote availability of interesting plants and other items,
we encourage each member to bring one or two things for the
raffle, silent auction, auction, or sale. Bring show specimens,
too, for the display table.

................................................................

The University Of California Botanical Garden is located on
Centennial Drive above the main U.C. Berkeley campus, between
the Stadium and the Lawrence Hall of Science. There is a parking
fee and entrance fee. Once in the garden walk down the paved road
to the meeting hall on your right hand side. For more detailed
directions, please call the Information Center at 510-643-2755
or consult their website (http://botanicalgarden.berkeley.edu/)
or the BACPS web site (http://www.bacps.org/).

                      Presidents Message
                         Stephen Davis

We need your help!

We regret that Bob Hole will not be able to continue publishing
the Bulletin and Newsletter, at least until some things at work
calm down. We want to thank him for the time he as put in to this
and other projects he as done for the BACPS and look forward to
his continued support when things are less frantic.

In the mean time Christi Fremon will be handling this rather
large task. I'm sure she could use some help though. Christie
is a long time CP enthusiast and finishing a degree in Technical
and Professional Writing, so anyone that helps out will be
getting an education on publishing as well!

I am hoping that we can make some big improvements in the
Newsletter and will be needing everyone's help for materials. Be
thinking of some interesting articles on your experiences and
favorite plants. Got a cultivation myth you want to destroy?
This is your chance! How about a favorite plant, it's history,
and cultivation needs? We will have photos too!

I'm looking forward to seeing how our publications evolve.
Please send any ideas to Christie Fremon.
